Hand-Picked By Me And One Of My Favorites. Have You Ever Noticed How Many Times "Hand-Picked," "Handcrafted" And "Hand-Selected" Or "Hand Picked" And Hand Made Are Now Used In Marketing And Promotion, Plus Advertising?

 It's about hands, and crafting marketing and promotional messaging and messages.

Just saw and hear on TV that Patron's Tequila  is "Hand made." 

Have you ever noticed how many times "hand-picked," "Handpicked," "hand crafted," handcrafted and "hand-selected" are now used in Marketing and Promotion, plus advertising?

I seem to spot it all the time and I keep updating this post, which is now in 2024. First published in June 2013.

I know it is used as a way to say “selected with great care," as for a special job or purpose; chosen. I keep updating this post by handcrafting it, with fingers from both hands, by adding new entries.

I haven't even started on "homemade." Or home sweet home. 

I keep adding to this list. Additional couple "hand" added by me.

• Groupon has "Handpicked Getaways." They say they are worth leaving home for.

• TicketMaster's Upcoming events "hand-picked" for you

• Hand-picked products at LivingSocial. This one is bizarre. Not sure on 8/3/2014 why they at LivingSocial picked those words or copy. Again on 5/27/2015: "Hand-picked" products by Livingsocial.com
• CVS with it's "handpicked" deals. Actually after you click on the CVS site it follows you to hand pocket and some wipes.  
• Tito's Handmade Vodka (Forbes and WSJ ran stories about how Tito's handmade vodka has gone from a sixteen gallon pot to 26 acre operation and produced 850K cases last year; they bottle 500 cases an hour.)
• Hopdoddy restaurants uses "handmade" syrups, as in "all of our syrups are handmade." Just opened in El Segundo and coming to Playa Vista. They have "hand crafted" beers, burgers and more.

Adding "sips handpicked"  promoted by BevMo.

And if that is not enough, Groupon is now offering "Hand off" deals. Really? Hopdoddy restaurant uses "handmade" syrups, as in "all of our syrups are handmade."

I found something even weirder or stranger. It's not hand picked but picked by cats. Or kittens? Groupon says with some humor: "Our Cat Recommends These Deals..."

When I Think About Design....

When I think about design I think about the "art" in copy and art. I think about art directors and designers.

Some of my ideas in understanding design are:

1. The purpose of design is to make the ordinary, extraordinary. Let it standout on the retail shelves. Design better web pages. 
2. Good design can be planned but great, extraordinary design just happens. 
3. Design the right things and design the things right. 

But when I think about designers it could be designing a better product. Coming up with a different marketing research project.

Designing better pricing, Developing a better distribution plan, as in "Place," in the 9P's of Marketing. It could ne determining a better presentation of your brand. Reaching out to a new "partner." Coming up with better "targeting, under "people."

Talk About Branding. Gangs Are Branded. SATG?

Branding but we are talking about gangs, here and geographically from Calabasas to Garden Grove.

I just read about SATG in a news release. 

The police and law enforcement have labeled, dubbed and branded them as South American Theft Groups (SATG). 

What is a brand? It's a way of identifying and differentiating products, services and items. 

A brand is a product, service or concept that is publicly distinguished from other products, services or concepts so that it can be easily communicated and usually marketed. Branding is the process of creating and disseminating the brand name, its qualities and personality.

The sheriff department is discussing the high-tech tactics being used by organized thieves, often burglary rings traveling from Chile or Columbia in what law enforcement is calling burglary tourism.

Cameras are disguised to blend in with vegetation, which enable the thieves to stake out multiple homes remotely to determine when residents come and go.

Recently, residents found the devices in yards from Calabasas to Garden Grove…. Yikes.

The sheriff's department recommends residents fight technology with technology and vigilance, offered these tips:

• Remain vigilant and observant of any suspicious activity in residential areas, particularly unusual objects or disturbances in yards or bushes.
• Conduct regular inspections of your property, including thorough checks of outdoor areas for any signs of tampering or unusual objects.
• Enhance home security measures, such as installing motion-activated lights, perimeter fencing, and surveillance systems to deter potential threats.
• Immediately report any suspicious findings, such as hidden cameras or unfamiliar individuals, to local law enforcement for further investigation.

According to the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department:

• SATG, often comprised of Chilean or Colombian nationals, are highly organized criminal enterprises that travel from state-to-state committing burglaries and thefts.
• Their members are often in the United States on limited tourist visas.
• SATG employs covert tactics, concealing surveillance devices like hidden cameras amidst natural surroundings such as leaves and bushes.
• Cameras are strategically placed in residential front/back yards to monitor homeowner activities and patterns of movement.
• The group utilizes remote access technology to monitor the live feed from hidden cameras, enabling real-time surveillance and reconnaissance.
• Prior to deployment, the group conducts extensive scouting to identify optimal locations for hidden camera placement, focusing on areas with minimal visibility.
• The group operates swiftly, deploying hidden cameras within minutes to minimize the risk of detection by homeowners or law enforcement.

"RAID KILLS BUGS DEAD." When Advertising Was Great.

"RAID KILLS BUGS DEAD."

One or two of the best classes I took and I took one undergrad and one graduate at USC was Don Kanter's Marketing classes. He was the Marketing chair. He was the marketing researcher and psychologist for an advertising agency.

They did extensive market research on RAID.

The agency came up with a great slogan. "Raid Kills Bugs Dead." Think about that.

He found and said they would watch homemakers and others drown the bugs.

Love the story so I recently say the line "Raid: Protection for Everyone."

They are missing a lot.

Want To Play The Odds. The San Francisco 49ers versus The Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl LIX. How Much Will Super Bowl Spots Cost On Fox?

We'll see the 49ers versus the Chiefs and to reach eyeballs in homes and OOH the advertising will cost for a 30-Second TV spot without production and celebrity costs, they will go for over $7.5 Million each.

That's my prediction. 

Each second will cost a quarter of a million dollars or $250K. And again no production and celebrity expenses are included. You add them on.

Where and when? The game will take place on Sunday February 9, 2025 at the Caesars Superdome, home to the New Orleans Saints in New Orleans.

It will be the 59th edition of the finale to the NFL season, which started in 1967.

Super Bowl LIX: It's Got To Be Close To $7.5 Million, And That's Not With Production or Celebrity Expenses.

It may never too early to use Public Relations, one of the eight components under Promotion in the 9P's of Marketing in announcing a Super Bowl spot, and they picked the day of announcing the NFL schedule.

You may have guessed it...Skechers. And they has secured a spot in the Super Bowl in '25. For around $7.5 million for :30 seconds. Without any production or celebrity expenses. 

It's the first TV spot announced for Super Bowl 2025 or SB LIX. They didn't release the cost on Fox , but the date to mark your calendars is February 9th, in New Orleans.

If You're In The TV And Advertising Business, What’s The Best Time Or Time Slot For A TV Show?

What’s the best time slot for a TV Show?

Easy. With the largest potential audience, it's after the Super Bowl. 

Next up. In 2025, Super Bowl LIX. Last year's audience was 123.4 Million viewers tuned in across several platforms, including CBS, Paramount+, Univision and Nickelodeon.

Next year, on Super Bowl Sunday the new series "Rescue Hi-Surf“ – the new lifeguard drama may be lucky. It’s been scheduled after the Super Bowl in '25.

While the time period isn’t always a winner it was this year.  CBS launched their hit “Tracker” after Super Bowl LVIII on Feb. 11th.

Previously FOX has aired “Next Level Chef” and five years ago, Fox aired an episode of “The Masked Singer.” Add one more which lasted only one season--“24: Legacy.”

Everyone Wants A Tip Now. Tipping Falls Under “Price In The Nine P’s of Marketing

Every time you pay for something, is a tip involved?  Are consumers feeling overwhelmed by the guilt trip or guilt tip boom.

Tip is a form of a price in my 9P’s of Marketing.

One example Dominos is giving back $3 if you tip the driver $3 or more. But what about every touch screen asking for a tip?  

Price is all aspects regarding pricing. 

The amount of money a consumer is willing to pay to obtain the product or service. 

Pricing includes wholesale/retail/promotional prices, discounts, trade-in allowances, quantity discounts, credit terms, sales and payment periods and credit terms. Yes, tipping. 

“Price” decision making also involves adjusting prices concerning inflation,  the competitive environment, economic situations and involve buyer perceptions. 

 “Pricing” is the sum of the values that customers exchange for the benefits of having or using the product or service.

Epic's Fortnite and Lego: Plenty of Examples of Product, People in the 9P’s of Marketing

Epic’s “Fortnite" will allow Players to build and profit from their own creativity.

These “Players” and developers will now be able to profit from their own “official” Lego Island games using Lego templates, props, consumables and items.

Easy Prediction: Super Bowl TV Spots For 2025 Will Be Increasing, With or Without The Taylor Swift Effect.

The Super Bowl will be on FOX in '25.

There was a big jump in tv audience from 2023 to 2024. The Super Bowl was on Nickelodeon and on CBS. 

Super Bowl LIX will be on February 9th, 2025, in New Orleans and prices of $7 to 7.5 Million for a :30 spot will be going up. 

That's my prediction after studying Super Bowl spots from 1984 to 2024.

The easiest reason is the audience size with the Taylor Swift effect.

Whether the Kanas City Chiefs are in another Super Bowl the prices will reflect this week's 123.7 million viewers.

As many of you know I worked for half of high school and all of undergrad in Standard Stations (now Chevron gas/service stations). It was truly a gas and service station, working with cars. Also part of "Place" in the 9P's.

I found it fascinating the "illegal" popup," makeshift gas sellers in Tunisia, some miles from the Libya border. They are cheap and filters are a piece of cloth. Gas cans all over the place.

Safety First" wasn't on the list. "Price" was. Quality of product was suspect.

Stock Market rumors on WeWork, as it is preparing for bankruptcy. WeWork’s stock has plummeted to less than $1 a share from its high two years ago at $400 per share.

The company was once valued as high as $47 billion.

How Much Is A Super Bowl TV Ad For Super Bowl LVIII< On CBS (in Las Vegas)?

The promotional TV spot cost is down to $7 Million but sales are up.  That's for 30-seconds, without production or creative costs.  

Actually the TV spots sold out early for February 11, 2023. Fox broadcasted the 2023 Super Bowl which drew record TV ratings with 115 Million viewers.

Car Dealers: Fair Pricing. Part of ” Price” and More Under 9P’s of Marketing

This is a hot, current topic. Pricing, including deceptive practices and deceptive pricing.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has defined “junk fees,” as “unfair or deceptive fees that are charged for goods or services (“Product’) that have little or no added value to the consumer (“People”), including goods or services (“Product”) that consumers (“People”) would reasonably assume to be included within the overall advertised price.”

The FTC has proposed a rule that, if finalized as proposed, would ban junk fees and bait-and-switch advertising by car dealers, including prohibiting deceptive advertising, requiring full upfront pricing, requiring consent for charges to consumers and prohibiting the sale of add-ons that have no benefit to buyers.
