Lincoln will be introducting Lincoln Service Valet. A delivery service, service.

They are taking a new strategy and implementing it for 2017.

Lincoln will be providing free pickup at any location, delivery of service vehicle and return the owner's vehicle after service is provided to new owners. LSV (Lincoln Service Valet) will start with their 2017 models.

Their LSV will be part of the warranty coverage, throughout the U.S. Smart. When does Lexus, Mercedez, BMW follow?

    • How frequent? More about media planning and sales presentations. 
When Yahoo lauched in '94 it was a leader. Not anymore. 

Four CEO's in last five years. 

Who may be the last CEO? Meyer will handle trnsition to Verizon. 

Marissa Meyer acquired 53 internet/web companies for a total of $2 Billion. One was Tumblr for $1.1 Billion. Plus big spending on media celebriites or personalities like Katie Couric and David Pogue.

I read in a few places that Mayer would micromanage in the least important parts of Yahoo. She even got involved personally in new logo development. 

I don't think or feel anyone thought Yahoo's problem was its logo. I would put logo development under branding and Planning, Presentation and Promotion in the nine P's of Marketing. 

She did help create revenue with mobile products. plus the acqusition of 53 companies.

Game players are running into things. You can see them in the middle of street. At corners. In parks. 

Under Marketing’s 9P's, you can see that "Pokemon Go" draws customers to your business or retail.

It’s about pokestops. Retail. Making the cash register ring. 

Make that cash register ring. It's about generating interest in society and your target market.

It's under Promotion And Place, In The 9P’s of marketing.

Plus Pokemon Go is rumored to have McDonald’s as a sponsor.

Can it be more popular? Maybe but its insanely hot.

    • To whom should you promote? Players of Pokemon Go who eat fast food. McDonald's makes sense.

You've got the Mr. Dough Boy of Pillsbury teaming up with the Girl Scouts to sell mix boxes of cookies and bars. Pillsbury is partnering with Girl Scout and introducing homemade cookie mixes. 
You can add "Place," also under the 9P's of Marketing; now American adults won't have to wait for the girl schools to sell cookies at your front door or in front of the supermarket.

It's about "Place" and North Carolina isn't the right "Place" or it doesn't have the right "Presentation" and right "Promotion" for the NBA.  

The sponsors, team owners, fans and advertisers have spoken.  In 2017, there will be no NBA All-Star Game in Charlotte, North Carolina. The rumors say it may go to New Orleans. 

NBA is taking a stand. It's part planning, promotion, presentation and place under the 9P's of Marketing.

NBA says it's pulling the 2017 all-star game from Charlotte. the reason given is North Carolina's House Bill 2, an anti-LGBT law. This law requires transgendered people (a segment or segments under "People" in the 9P's) to use bathrooms of the gender listed on their birth certificate.

    • "People," market segments utilizing demographics, geographics, psychographics, behavioral characteristics and technographics are a vital component of the 9P's of Marketing. Once a target market is chosen, the organization can develop its marketing strategies to target this market segment.
  • Product and Services 
  • Place (Distribution) 
  • Price
  • Promotion: 
    • Eight (8) major, strategic components: The communication elements include personal and non-personal communication activities. Activities that communicate the merits of the overall product, which include:
    • Personal Selling/ Sales Force
    • Advertising: Sponsors and advertisers fall here and in other elements or components under "Promotion," under the 9P's of marketing.
    • Sales Promotion
    • Collateral Materials
    • Direct Marketing (also referred to as Action or Direct Response Advertising
    • Interactive/Internet/Web, Digital Media, Social Media 
    • Events and Experiences: The all-star game and its events fall here. 
    • Public Relations
  • Strategic questions under Promotion::
      • What should you promote?
      • To whom should you promote?
      • What economic and discount levels should you offer?
      • What form of promotion should you offer? Features?
      • How frequent?
  • Partners: 
    • It is important to partner with firms that have similar corporate philosophies, who have agreed upon objectives and strategies.
  • Presentation: 
    • The “P” or “Presentation” is the act of presenting any of the different 9P’s© and/or components to your customers, suppliers, wholesalers, retailers, sales force, marketing intermediaries, clients, employees, partners, and/or others.
    • Look at “real” product and service experiences. I place “events and experiences” also under Promotion. While traditional marketing is based on target audience impressions/ views/ clicks/ exposure, experimental marketing involves engaging with consumers. Enabling consumers and “allowing” them to feel the brand. 
  • Passion:
    • Those intense, driving or overmastering feelings, emotions in the planning, developing, pricing, promoting, partnering, selling and overall marketing of products or services.

Some Example Of The Nine P's Of Marketing From "The Confidence Game" by Maria Konnikova.

Just finished reading "The Confidence Game" by Maria Konnikova. Did you know that storytelling is one of the oldest forms of entertainment? You probably did but you didn't it relate it to con artists, did you? 

Before I get into the book and examples I wanted to talk marketing and business. With Marketing and product marketing, remember each brand has or should have a story to appeal to potential users. 

Ever hear the expression: I'm not trying to sell you anything. But you know they are going to? And another part of that the more we like the sales person or in the book, confidence or con men the more we relate and can be conned. 

I wanted to illustrate some examples under the 9P's of Marketing. 
  • Under "People": Many a con artist will tell researchers, the police and writers the best target is one who has been duped or conned before. Referred to as a repeat users, or buyer, in marketing terms. 
    • People always want something to believe in. 
    • People want meaning.
    • Con artists sell hope. Stories or cons for you to be happier, accepted, wanted, better looking, smarter, wealthier, richer, loved. Grass is always greener. 
    • Everyone wants to believe in something; everyone wants meaning and they want stories or storytelling that make sense, or relate to their surroundings and experience.  
    • We are programmed to be too optimistic or too positive of how things are going to turn out.
    • Some cults target a specific victim profile: young, female and vulnerable.  
    • The more invested we are, the less likely we will leave or exit. 
  • Under Planning and Place: Con artists look for emotional lows and loneliness. Places and events can be funeral and obits, divorces, scandals, company layoff. Times of sadness and loneliness, Under "People," in the 9P's there are examples:
    • The advance fee scam: The longest running con of all time: The Nigerian prince or the Nigerian scams. Did you know that spambots can send large volumes of e-mails at once. This infamous e-mail scam is associated with a Nigerian sender posing as a significant political or royal figure. He or she is soliciting the reader to wire a specific amount of cash, which will allow the sender or receiver to access their savings account/gold/valuables and reward the benefactor with more money than originally borrowed.
    • Look for or get the "foot in the door." "I'm not selling I'm just on a service call." That was the line I was taught when I was selling door-to-door with Watkins' products, at the age of 15. For sure, it was a different world out there. 
    • The smarter you are, the more you like to trust.
    • The more you are in debt, the more likely you are to fall for a scam or fraud. 
    • We as consumers look for persuasive arguments, benefits, reciprocity, consistency, validation, friendship, and sometimes authority. 
  • Under Product in the 9P's:  
    • Rare or precious items.
    • Scarcity (get it when or while you can), or the scarcity of information.
    • Collector items.
    • Real deal
    • Unique
  • According to a AARP study, 37% of victims older than 55 will admit to having fallen for a con; just over half of those under 55 do so. (The Confidence Game, Maria Konnokova)
  • Voltaire once remarked the "Religion began when the first scoundrel me the first fool."
  • Markowitz and Hancock tested whether the false publication differed linguistically from the genuine ones and they found one consistent 'tell"on the con or falseness: The deceitful papers used far more words related to the nature of the work --how and what to measure and to the accuracy of the results. If there's not much substance you "paper" more. Add more.
  • To a psychic their customers or potential users (the "marks") are preselected. Their customers are opening up and may believe by just coming into the store front. With almost no costs I observed last week that the psychics had set up card tables in San Diego, in a park.  
  • Under Promotion in the 9P's:
    • A strategic question under Promotion: What should you promote, in the con? The fraud: artwork, money, deal, transaction, deception? 
  • Under Price in the 9P's:
    • A deal. 
  • Under Presentation and Passion, in the nine P's of Marketing:
    • Too much choices, there are too many options. We then shake our head and don't make a decision. it's called "choice fatigue."
    •  How information is presented to us can get us to make decisions in a very precise way, and not necessarily in a way that corresponds to our stated preferences. 
    • We believe people in power, or tend to. Some people and obviously investors thought Bernie Madoff was a special person with great reputation, who "inspired trust."
  • Psychological challenges and changes: 
      • Think about sales presentations. Customer service. Smiling or frowning changes the pattern of blood flow to the brain.
