It's Super Bowl LXI Coming On February 14th--Valentine's Day. Presentation And Promotion Under The 9P's Of Marketing. What About The L Or 50th?

I was just thinking of the Roman Numerals and found a Marketing presentation 11 years ago. 

Super Bowl L or Super Bowl 50 kicked off after the 2015 season. 

The NFL made the change to Super Bowl 50, one time. CBS was the network. I guess they didn't like the idea of L for "Loser?"  Instead of naming it Super Bowl L using the traditional Roman numerals as in previous Super Bowls, this "special" game was promoted in Arabic numerals as in "50."

Another way to describe the Super Bowl 50; it can be called the "Golden Super Bowl," being located in the Golden State (California); plus the 50th anniversary is named the "golden anniversary."

ESPN and ABC will telecast the LXI game in the United States in 2027.

It will be played at SoFi Stadium home of the Rams and the Chargers. This will be the first Super Bowl held at the home of two Los Angeles teams. 

In the 9P's of Marketing I define "Presentation:"
  • This “P” or “Presentation” is the act of presenting any of the different 9P’s© and/or components to your customers, suppliers, wholesalers, retailers, sales force, marketing intermediaries, clients, employees, partners, and/or others. I guess I'd add players or employees.

There needs to be more focus on the "Customer," or "People." 
    • "People," market segments utilizing demographics, geographics, psychographics, behavioral characteristics and technographics are a vital component of the 9P's. Once a target market is chosen, the organization can develop its marketing strategies to target this market segment. 
    • There are still questions:  Can the segments be accessed?  Marketing strategies need to be adapted for the different tiers or segments. Instead of viewing the market as a uniform group of customers with similar potential, the firm needs to view them as distinct groups or segments with differing potential.
  • Product
  • Place (Distribution)
  • Price
  • Planning
  • Promotion
  • Partners, with plenty of "Partners" when dealing with "Presentation" and "Promotion" of the local, national and global exposure of the Super Bowl.

Taking A “Selfie” Seems Like Everyone Is Doing It. When Was The First One? Think Of Promotion With The 9P's Of Marketing.

Advertising is about visibility and increasing viewership plus sales.

Taking a “selfie” seems like every one is doing it, at graduations, at parties even at the Oscars on TV with Ellen. 

The first known photographic self-portrait was taken by Robert Cornelius in 1839.

It wasn’t as easy then as it is today until the cellphone was invented with the built-in camera. It does appear that if you’re in your 20’s or 30’s it’s more appropriate than if you are in your 50’s or 60’s or 80's. Agree?

How Many Products Does Amazon Promote That They Sell? With 9P's Of Marketing.

I just heard a TV spot for Amazon which featured a copy point of                                                 "half a billion" products on Amazon. 


Estimates typically range between 350 million and 600 million depending on whether variations are included.

Amazon boasts an estimated 350 million to over 600 million products across its global marketplace. This vast, ever-changing catalog is dominated by third-party sellers, who account for over 90% of the listed SKUs. 

Amazon's key categories with the highest volume include apparel/clothing, home and kitchen and electronics.

Mona Lisa And Marketing: Where The Eyes Of A Portrait Appearing To Move, How Many Visitors To The Louvre In Paris To See The Mona Lisa?

With the recovery of tourism in France, plus Beyoncé and JAY-Z’s “Apes**t” video, with its tribute to the museum’s greatest artworks, visitor attendance increased at the Musée du Louvre in Paris. The Louvre recorded it’s greatest attendance at 10.2 million visitors in 2018. An increase of 25% over 2017.

Many of the 9P’s of Marketing including Product, Place and Presentation are part of this story. No other museum in the world has this attendance. The Louvre’s previous record was 9.7 million dates from 2012 with the exhibitions on Leonardo da Vinci and Raphael.

The word on where Mona Lisa is looking: The Mona Lisa effect is a real phenomenon where the eyes of a portrait appear to follow the viewers. 

There are more than 2000 assessments revealing the painting’s gaze falls slightly to the right.

You may not know but 20% of the visitors to the Louvre do not see the Mona Lisa painting. But up to 30K visitors a day do. Often for only 30 seconds allowed of viewing is allowed—the Louvre is planning a dedicated, separate room for the painting.

Stolen. Missing Twelve Tons Of KitKat Bars. Plenty of 9P's Of Marketing

There will be shortages of "Product." For Easter. 

Where do you sell twelve tons of "stolen" bars? 

To whom?

Which channels or "Place?"

I found a story of a huge 12-ton shipment of Nestle's crunch KitKat bars was stolen. It was called a "chocolaty" heist. That risks causing a shortage in stores right before Easter.

KitKat, owned by Swiss food giant Nestle, reported a "truck transporting 413,793 units of its new chocolate range has been stolen during transit in Europe." They added "could enter unofficial sales channels across European markets."

Nestle can trace the stolen goods by scanning their unique batch codes found on each bar.

What Movie Grossed Only $9.6 Million At The Box Office And Was Best Picture And A Commercial Success? Looking At The 9P's Of Marketing.

Yes, $10Million may seem like a bad weekend these days, but with $9.6 million in total box-office sales in 1954, it was the commercially successful movie...“On The Waterfront.” 

Won the Oscar for Best Picture in 1954. 

The movie with Marlon Brando was based on a series in the New York Sun by Malcolm Johnson that won the Pulitzer Prize.

I am using the 9P's with Planning, People, Product, Price, Promotion, Place, Partners, Presentation and Passion to illustrate an unusual insight or example. To find opportunities and problems in Marketing.

  • Planning and Research. 

    • Finding copy points is part of the creative and promotional planning. 
    • Planning for marketing activities, objectives, strategies and tactics. Viewership, revenue, sales. All sales, whether in services, fashion, sports, amusement parks, hotels, resorts, autos, fast food, retail sales or tires, refreshments or cereal, as three examples. 
    • From the founder of Intuit, Scott Cook, said: " A brand is no longer what we tell the consumer it is -- (maybe from Marketing Research never was is my comment) it is what consumers (“People” in the 9P’s) tell each other it is.
  • People (Segmentation and Targeting)
    • Consumers and users, as in shoppers. Fashion consumers. Add travelers. 
    • In my 9P's, I stress that firms need to look and analyze potential, new, existing and repeat customers and users
  • Product and Services, includes airports, sports teams, people and celebrities too. I teach that perfection resides in quality, not quantity.
  • Place (Distribution), includes retail and online. How about locations of airports, team stadiums, amusement parks and resorts?  
  • Price or Pricing, many contingency plans needed.  
  • Promotion
    • There are eight (8) major, strategic components or communication elements which are personal and non-personal communication activities. 
    • The activities that communicate the merits of the overall product include:
      • Personal Selling/ Sales Force: Sales persons
        • Listen more than you talk. People who listen more, learn more, plus helps you position your service/product/solution or offering. 
      • Advertising: 
      • Like Super Bowl advertising in February for Super Bowl. Think about this expression "It is only creative if the product or service sells." I wanted to add "It is only good media spending if it sells."
      • Sales Promotion, advertising mascots can fit here, too. Signage would fit here. 
      • Collateral Materials
      • Direct Marketing (also referred to as Action or Direct Response Advertising)
      • Interactive/Internet/Web, Digital Media, Social Media:  
      • Events and Experiences, sampling
      • Public Relations/PR
    • One stop shopping is more important than ever. 
  • Partners/Alliances, can be one of the most powerful of the 9P's if researched, performed and handled well.                 
    • There should be moving forward towards shared goals or goals. 
  • Presentation:
    • The act or acts of strategically presenting any of the different 9P’s© and/or components to your customers, suppliers, wholesalers, retailers, sales force, marketing intermediaries, clients, employees, partners, and/or others. 

      Presentation aspects may be signs, symbols or images that represent something; a descriptive or persuasive account (as a sales person of the product or service). Something set forth for the attention of mind of your targets ("People") and media audiences. I've added "culture," too. I'm adding "culture," too.

  • Passion, including consumers and employees. Think about the lines sometimes of consumers waiting for a new Apple product

One Of Hollywood’s Most Famous Signs Had Only One Word, 13 Letters?

The Word "Hollywood" with three "O's" uses nine letters. 

Only nine letters remained after John Belushi knocked off four of them on a sign, as a pilot. 

It was the famous “HOLLYWOOD” sign which began as a housing development with signage which spelled “HOLLYWOODLAND.” Nine plus four equals 13. 

The sign has made dozens of film cameos, including City of Angels1941 in 1979, Rock of AgesGoldmemberMighty Joe YoungIndependence DayChaplin, and The Muppet Movie, among others. 

The Hollywood sign made an appearance when Belushi as a pilot in 1941 knocked off the “land” part of the original “HOLLYWOODLAND” sign.

"Hollywoodland" was a 1923, 13-letter sign built to promote and advertise a new, high-end "storybook" housing development in the Hollywood Hills. 

Its significance lies in its transition from a temporary, electric, $21,000 real-estate promotional  "gimmick" into the enduring global symbol of American's film industry's glamour, eventually losing the "land" to become iconic.
