I am a senior Forensic Marketing Expert, Advertising/Marketing consultant with Londre Marketing Consultants, LLC plus I teach Marketing and Advertising. I own a copyright for this concept, the Nine P’s/9 P's ©2007, which augments the Marketing Mix (Product, Price, Promotion and Place) or the 4P’s by the American Marketing Association, Neil Borden and Jerome McCarthy in the study and practices of Marketing.

The Nine P's/9P's help identify marketing problems in a number of areas and help develop marketing’s objectives, strategies, tactics and solutions.  The Nine P's are insightful. In Marketing. the "Customer," or potential customers are king, but are missing in the 4P's. There needs to be more focus on the "Customer," or "People." "People," market segments utilizing demographics, geographics, psychographics, behavioral characteristics and technographics are a vital component of the 9P's.

I consult and teach using the concepts and practices of the Nine P's/9P's of Marketing.

In the study and practice of Marketing, Marketing and Brand Managers develop plans, strategies and tactics. The Nine P’s include these important components:

  • People (Segmentation and Targeting)
  • Product and Services
    • It's the goods and service combination the firm offers to the target market, including variety of product mix, features, branding, designs, packaging, sizes, services, maintenance contracts, warranties and return policies.
    • A product (service) is anything that can be offered to a market for attention, acquisition, use or consumption that might satisfy a want or need.
  • Place (Distribution)
  • Price
  • Planning
  • Promotion:
    • There are eight (8) major, strategic components or communication elements which are personal and non-personal communication activities.
    • The activities that communicate the merits of the overall product include:
      • Personal Selling/ Sales Force: Sales persons
        • Listen more than you talk. People who listen more, learn more, plus helps you position your service/product/solution or offering.
      • Advertising: There's an expression "It is only creative if the product or service sells." I wanted to add "It is only good media spending if it sells."
      • Sales Promotion
      • Collateral Materials
      • Direct Marketing (also referred to as Action or Direct Response Advertising)
      • Interactive/Internet/Web, Digital Media, Social Media:
      • Events and Experiences
      • Public Relations/PR
    • Here are some strategic comments and questions under Promotion:
      • What should you promote? Strategic copy points.
      • To whom should you target and promote? Under "People/"Targeting, target market, audience with media falls here.
      • Evaluate the eight different elements under Promotion and your brand's practices. That affects media planning.
      • Ask is there a better way? A different promotional mix. There has to be a better way.
      • What are your costs in dollars and manpower or person power? Ask "Is there a different way or ways to budget?"
      • Look at different strategic partners? Their costs?
      • You can differentiate with price. Discounting? Special sales? What economic and discount levels should you offer? Look at revenue versus costs.
      • What form or combination of promotion should you offer? Features?
      • How frequent? Add media planning here.

What Is A Pain Point, Under The 9P's Of Marketing? A Customer Pain Point?

What is a pain point, under the nine P's of Marketing? May also be referred to as a "Marketing pain point" or "customer pain point."
A pain point is a specific problem that potential, prospective buyers, customers ("People," under the 9P's, read below) of your product or business are experiencing.

As a brand manager, owner or company think of "pain points" as a Marketing problem. What is stopping your potential buyers in purchasing? Customer pain points are diverse and can fall under many of the nine P's such as "Product," "Price," "Place," "Presentation," "Partners"and more. "Planning" and research can help find them.

Visit here for more insights and true Marketing and Advertising Trivia.

  2. People (Segmentation and Targeting)
    • Look and analyze potential, new, existing and repeat customers and users.
    • "People" or targeting has almost always been left out of the traditional "Marketing Mix," almost every diagram includes the four P's with Product, Promotion, Place and Price.
    • Place "consumer" or "People" or "potential buyers" in the middle of a circle. Find information or data on them.
    • Add the other components in the nine P's. In Marketing, from my education, training, research and analysis plus testimony, there needs to be greater focus on the buyer, "customer," or "People," in both planning ad implementation.
    • To understand your "People" or market segments, it may utilize many characteristics, including demographics, geographics, psychographics, behavioral characteristics and technographics, which may be a vital component or components of the 9P's of Marketing.
    • To understand your "People" or market segments, it may utilize many characteristics, including demographics (such as age, family size, family life cycle, gender, income, occupation, education, religion, race, culture, generation, nationality, and social class), geographics, psychographics (buyers are on basis of psychological/personality traits, lifecycle, values), behavioral characteristics (needs and benefits, decision roles, user and usage-related variables, occasions, user status, usage rate buyer-readiness stage, loyalty status, attitude and multiple bases) and technographics (potential buyers may or may not have the software and computer skills. Think employees here too.) which may be a vital component or components of the 9P's of Marketing.
    • Once a target market is chosen, the organization can develop its marketing strategies to target a market segment or marketing segments.

  6. Promotion
  7. Partners:
    • Working with others and organizations which take part in an undertaking with another or others, in a business or company with shared risks and profits.
    • Also referred to as Alliances.
    • With "Partners" and your Marketing efforts, it is vitally important to partner and align with firms that have similar corporate philosophies. Simple but complex and difficult, have agreed upon objectives and strategies.

Product Placement Backlash: Two Sides Of Promotion? Here's A Negative Slant To The Fiji Water Girl At The Golden Globes....

A little background first.

Product placement, also known as embedded promotion, is a practice in which manufacturers of goods or service providers generate exposure for their products by paying for them to be featured in movies and television programs.

It’s a promotional technique where references to specific brands or products are incorporated into a film or television program, with specific promotional intent.

On Sunday night we saw it when a brunette holding a tray of Fuji water bottles was photo bombing or photobombing the celebrities and stars on the Golden Globes' red carpet.

With Jim Carrey, and others she was giving either sultry looks or head turns to others. It was blatant.

Yesterday, Jamie Curtis took issue, wasn't thrilled and commented "...my husband, who doesn’t look at a lot of show business news sites, just mentioned that I was on the CNN website. I specifically moved away from the blatant promotions by Fiji and Moet where young women with their trays filled with their wares stood near a designated camera. I knew why there was a photographer poised there and I moved away as I said out loud that I didn’t want to be doing advertising..."  "The sponsors of events need to get permission from people when they get them to take their picture next to products.”

Some marketing and promotional pros like product placement and others don't as a promotional technique, especially if you pay too much and no one notices. In my blog post you have the issue of the stars not wanting to be part of it.

That didn't happen, as in permissions, at the Golden Globes, on Sunday

Auto Bowl Of Car Ads, In Super Bowl LIII: Update #2

One of the top categories of Super Bowl ads are auto companies promoting in the Super Bowl game telecast.

Toyota is in.

So is Hyundai and Kia.

Plus Mercedez Benz and Audi, who sat on the sidelines last year.

It will be Audi's tenth Super Bowl. They are tied with the New England Patriots with their tenth visit last year. If the Patriots make it in this year, it would be # 11. And eight of the ten years for the Patriots have come since 2001.

Two years ago Audi was on target with equal pay for women but it was reported that Audi didn't practice what it preached, with its executive team being all male.

On February 3rd the Super Bowl will be played in Super Bowl LIII will be held in Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium, with plenty of promotion for Mercedez-Benz. It was reported in the LA Times in mid January that a spot sold for $5.25 Million or $175,000 a second, in Super Bowl LIII.

Stay tuned for more.

Observations On Netfix, Golden Globes, Emmys, Amazon, Showtime and HBO.

Concerning The Golden Globes And The Emmys. Also for The Oscars.  The networks are promoting Netflix and Amazon plus other steaming services. They are 180-minute promotions for the cable and steaming services.

For the top awards, did you know for the Golden Globes only NBC's "The Good Place" and "Will & Grace" were nominated along with CBS' "Murphy Brown."  Yikes.

Did you know that Netflix tweeted, in the first hour of Golden Globes, with a "shout out to everyone who is watching commercials for the first time in several months."

It's tough out there for the likes of Fox, CBS, NBS, and ABC and their programming.

Plenty Of Hype For The Super Bowl; It Seems Like Many Campaigns Use The Super Bowl.

With plenty of hype and PR...It was reported in the LA Times in mid January that a spot sold for $5.25 Million or $175,000 a second, in Super Bowl LIII.

Chevy is doing a teaser PR campaign in early 2019. They are teasing if they will be in the Game or Super Bowl LIII on February 3rd.

Plus they were part of Super Bowl history in 2015, when Chevrolet turned everyone's television sets black as the game was about to begin.

Part of this year's campaign started last night, during the College Football Playoff National Championship, with Chevy’s new advertising campaign for their redesigned 2019 Silverado.

The new launch spot features cowgirls, cowboys, kids, farms, dirt bikes and city dwellers or city folk.

Their 60-second TV spot with John Cusack is called "A Little Bit Country, A Little Bit Rock n' Roll” with the lyrics from Donny and Marie.

Earlier Chevrolet used their "Real People. Not Actors" ad campaign, with special Amazon packaging and magazine first covers including Rolling Stone, BonAppétit, ESPN, GQ, Motor Trend, Southern Living, Sports Illustrated, Texas Monthly and US Weekly.

Turning $5K Into One Million Dollars: Amazon Is Now The World's Most Valuable Company.

For Amazon, it's about technology, people, products and partners with Amazon. If you invested $5K in 1997 it would be worth now more than a million dollars.

CEO of Amazon, Jeff Bezo said:

“Our customers are loyal to us right up until the second somebody offers them a better service. And I love that. it’s super-motivating for us.”

Today Amazon.com, a tech titan, became the world’s most valuable public company.

After only a week of Microsoft's reign, now Amazon at the close of trading had attained the title, with a market cap of around $800 Billion.

  1. Planning and Research
    • Simply it's about Segmentation and Targeting. Add Positioning and you have STP, as a major first step.
  3. Product and Services
    • It's the goods and service combination the firm offers to the target market ("People," including variety of product mix, features, branding, designs, packaging, sizes, services, maintenance contracts, warranties and return policies.
    • A product (service) is anything that can be offered to a market for attention, acquisition, use or consumption that might satisfy a want or need.
  4. Place (Distribution)
  5. Price or Pricing
  6. Promotion

What Is Product Placement? An Example From Last Night On The Golden Globes' Red Carpet, Under Promotion In The 9P's Of Marketing

Product placement, also known as embedded promotion, is a practice in which manufacturers of goods or service providers generate exposure for their products by paying for them to be featured in movies and television programs.

It’s a promotional technique where references to specific brands or products are incorporated into a film or television program, with specific promotional intent.

Last night you saw it when a brunette holding a tray of Fuji water bottles was photobombing the celebrities and stars on the Golden Globes' red carpet.

With Jim Carrey and others she was giving either sultry looks or head turns to others. It was blatant.

Some marketing and promotional pros like product placement and others don't as a promotional technique, especially if you pay too much and no one notices.  That didn't happen at the Golden Globes, last night.

  • People (Segmentation and Targeting)
    • In the bottle water market, Fuji Water was trying to stand out last night in the Golden Globes, by using a form of promotion in the nine P's of Marketing.
    • As a brand manager look and analyze potential, new, existing and repeat customers and users.
    • "People" or targeting has almost always been left out of the traditional "Marketing Mix," almost every diagram includes the four P's with Product, Promotion, Place and Price.

  • Price
Fuji Water used the Golden Globes' red carpet.
Features?
