Water Tasting With Sommelier. Not Wine Tasting, With Nine P's Of Marketing.

Another crazy adventure.

Not wine tasting but water tasting with sommelier Martin Riese.

I know crazy. Drink. Water. Water Tasting. Really?

Yes, there was a difference in taste.

Evian or Naive spelled backwards seemes to win.

Got all of the 9P's of Marketing covered at the water tasting in Beverly Hills this week ---Planning, People, Product, Price, Place, Promotion, Partner, Presentation and Passion.

A bottle was discussed selling for $165, at a restaurant.

People did like the Queen's favorite, Hildon.

Need sales? Need more insights into true Marketing and advertising practices and practical examples? Including smart Marketing trivia?  Visit right here.

I am an experienced, senior Forensic Marketing Expert, Advertising expert, Advertising/Marketing consultant with Londre Marketing Consultants, LLC.

I created the 9P's of Marketing--Planning, People, Product, Place, Price, Promotion, Partners, Passion and Presentation to solve Marketing and business problems and create Marketing opportunities.

I own a copyright for these Nine P’s/9 P's of Marketing©2007 concepts and Marketing practices, which augment the 1960's Marketing Mix (Product, Price, Promotion and Place) or the 4P’s by the American Marketing Association (AMA), Neil Borden and Jerome McCarthy in the study and practice of Marketing. It's sixty years later and we are in the digital age.

The Nine P's/9P's of Marketing help identify marketing problems in a number of strategic areas and help develop profitable marketing’s objectives, strategies, tactics and solutions. The 9P's are insightful. The nine P's were created for the digital age.

Under and with Marketing, the "customer" or potential consumers should be the center of the universe or "king," but they are missing in the 4P's. I feel from my study and research that there needs to be more focus on the "Customer," or "People." "People" or market segments, which utilize demographics, geographics, psychographics, behavioral characteristics and technographics, are vital, learning or teaching components of the 9P's. Helping create opportunities, solve problems, increase sales. Cut costs.

I consult and teach using these Marketing concepts and practices of the Nine P's/9P's of Marketing.

In the study and practice of Marketing, brand, advertising and marketing managers develop plans, strategies and tactics. The Nine P’s include these important concepts, practices and components:

  • People (Segmentation and Targeting)
    • Water drinkers. This was a tasting of 25 people serious about drinking water or me going to add to my Marketing lectures.
    • In my 9P's, I stress that firms need to look and analyze potential, new, existing and repeat customers and users.
  • Product and Services:
    • How about a water list instead of a wine list. Or are they complementary?
    • Water, still or with bubbles. We tasted six and talked about many more.
  • Place (Distribution), Health food stores and restaurants. Plus selected supermarkets
  • Price or Pricing, one bottle costs $165 a bottle at restaurants.
  • Planning, marketing research.
  • Promotion:
    • There are eight (8) major, strategic components or communication elements which are personal and non-personal communication activities.
    • The activities that communicate the merits of the overall product include:
      • Personal Selling/ Sales Force: Sales persons
        • Listen more than you talk. People who listen more, learn more, plus helps you position your service/product/solution or offering.
      • Advertising: You may not know that Google, Facebook and Amazon attract 46 cents of every dollar spent by advertisers. Think about this expression "It is only creative if the product or service sells." I wanted to add "It is only good media spending if it sells."
      • Sales Promotion
      • Collateral Materials
      • Direct Marketing (also referred to as Action or Direct Response Advertising)
      • Interactive/Internet/Web, Digital Media, Social Media:
      • Events and Experiences
      • Public Relations/PR
  • Partners/Alliances
  • Presentation:
    • The act or acts of strategically presenting any of the different 9P’s© and/or components to your customers, suppliers, wholesalers, retailers, sales force, marketing intermediaries, clients, employees, partners, and/or others.

Presentation aspects may be signs, symbols or images that represent something; a descriptive or persuasive account (as a sales person of the product or service). Something set forth for the attention of mind of your targets ("People") and media audiences.

  • Passion

Looking For Santa? With 3K Open Positions, What's Missing From The Retail Christmas Market?

Santas attract foot traffic.

Santas deliver sales and more.

Santa just isn't where they should be, at retail. We don't have enough Santas.

Santa at retail
In this tight labor market, Santas or Kriss Kringle look-alikes are needed at stores, outlets, department stores, malls, and corporate events. Even at holiday parties, the look-alike Santas are going wanting. They are needed. Requests go without being filled.

Sadly 300 Santas, remember they are older, have died from the Coronavirus. It's not that safe visiting and seeing hundreds of kids and their parents. The Santas are inside mostly, too.

Retail stores have closed some of their stores. Macy's has gone virtual.

More Than Games. Less Fanfare. Impacting The Winter Olympics

More tension between Washington and Beijing. More trouble for the Olympics and NBC.

With Biden and The USA's boycott of Beijing, who does it hurt. NBC's TV numbers again. Plus the sponsors.

The Biden administration said it will not send an official U.S. delegation to the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. We've got a "diplomatic" boycott.

Where does that put the sponsors (Intel, Omega, Panasonic, Samsung, P&G, Toyota, Visa, Airbnb, Atos, Bridgestone, Coca-Cola, Allianz, and Alibaba) of the Winter Olympics. They can't pull out of supporting the Olympics? Are they supporting the human rights abuses of China?

From the Biden administration:  "will not send any diplomatic or official representation" to the Games. Why? They say China's "ongoing genocide and crimes against humanity in Xinjiang and other human rights abuses."

For the Summer Olympics first lady Jill Biden led the U.S. delegation to the Olympics in Tokyo.

Clients Are Demanding Payment Terms, Part Of Branding And Presentation, Under The 9P's Of Marketing?

Let's flip the pancake.  Agencies are accepting terms. Some do. Some don't.

Want to be different?
Want to be a bank?
If you are an agency or media buying agency do you like to get paid in 30 days?
60 days?
90 days?

Or how about 120 days of 150 days?

I found out that 90-day payment terms were part of the Coca-Cola media review.
WPP with Grey won the majority of the $4 billion Coca-Cola advertising and media business, looking at creative, media, data, targeting and marketing tech across more than 200 countries. Add billing and payment terms.

Agencies are floating large sums of money because of clients.
I look at “real” product and service experiences.

“Presentation” is about differentiation and to me it's the act of strategically presenting any of the different 9P’s© and/or components to your customers, suppliers, wholesalers, retailers, sales force, marketing intermediaries, clients, employees, partners, and/or others.

Should shorter payment periods be a priority in 2022?

Spending, Holidays, Price, Shopping, Product. Observations With Nine P’s Of Marketing

Plenty of examples of the 9P's of Marketing, related to "Planning," "People," "Product" and "Pricing."

  1. Omicron variant, with plenty of news in late November and early December, will affect shopping and gift giving.
  2. Holiday shopping began earlier again, as early as September.
  3. Wages are also continuing to increase heading into the holidays. Helps in spending. Retail.
  4. 2021 does not look like 2020. Different consumer of “people” dynamics.
  5. Upper income families and households are less bullish than last year, with consumer sentiment dropping.
  6. Geographics are different, too. Inflation is uneven across the US. Midwest and South are higher than East and West coasts. Purchasing and product consumption is effects spread unevenly across US.
  7. Used and new car prices are skyrocketing; gasoline prices are up 49.6% year-over-year for the US. buy more of it. “People” are making choices.

I created the 9P's of Marketing.

I own a copyright for the Nine P’s/9 P's of Marketing ©2007 concepts and Marketing practices, which augment the 1960's Marketing Mix (Product, Price, Promotion and Place) or the 4P’s by the American Marketing Association (AMA), Neil Borden and Jerome McCarthy in the study and practice of Marketing.

The Nine P's/9P's of Marketing help identify marketing problems in a number of strategic areas and help develop profitable marketing’s objectives, strategies, tactics and solutions. The 9P's are insightful. They were created for the digital age.
In Marketing, the "customer," or potential consumers should be the center of the universe or "king," but they are missing in the 4P's. I feel from my study and research that there needs to be more focus on the "Customer," or "People." "People" or market segments, which utilize demographics, geographics, psychographics, behavioral characteristics and technographics, are vital, learning components of the 9P's.

    • In my 9P's, I stress that firms need to look and analyze potential, new, existing and repeat customers and users.
    • It's a special way at looking at diversity, if you review your gender, racial and other factors to your employees, customers, management, talent, board of directors, suppliers, partners, agencies, production and more.
    • To understand your "People" or market segments, you will need to or may need to utilize many characteristics, including demographics (such as age, family size, family life cycle, gender, income, occupation, education, religion, race, culture, generation, nationality, and social class), geographics, psychographics (buyers are on basis of psychological/personality traits, lifecycle, values), behavioral characteristics (needs and benefits, decision roles, user and usage-related variables, occasions, user status, usage rate buyer-readiness stage, loyalty status, attitude and multiple bases) and technographics (potential buyers may or may not have the software and computer skills. Think employees here too, which may be a vital component or components of the 9P's of Marketing.
    • Look at your actual customers. Then once a target market is chosen, the organization can develop its marketing strategies to target a market segment or market segments
    • It’s easy to market toward demographics, but brands can’t connect with people unless they learn how they think. By developing mindset-based marketing strategies, brand decision-making can better resonate with these segments, targets and audiences to increase consumer loyalty.
    • Brand managers need to look at at their customers and/or potential users. Do you understand your potential customer's purchase and usage touchpoints, their habits and how they engage with your brand? Competing for their attention?
    • Place "consumers," "People" or "potential buyers" in the middle of a circle. Find information or data on them. Add the other components in the other nine P's.
    • Post Covid 19 pandemic, I'm seeing "People" want an exceptional buying experience, which includes ethics and the company’s values. People are caring about convenience, comfort, ethics, and sustainability.  Look at home delivery of meals and everything on Amazon and Walmart or Target.
    • “People” or consumers prefer to buy “Products” from brands that share their values and “purpose-driven” movements.
    • Targeting mindsets allows brands to connect with consumers on an emotional level, which positively affects brands’ bottom lines.
    • Consumer and shopping data, plus first-party data can also help brands identify what people find valuable and important. You need to know where they live, how they work and play?
    • "People" or targeting has almost always been left out of the traditional "Marketing Mix," almost every diagram includes the four P's with Product, Promotion, Place and Price.
    • In Marketing, from my education, training, research and analysis plus testimony, there needs to be greater focus on the buyer, "customer," or "People," in both planning ad implementation.
  • Product and Services
    • Under the 9P's, it's the goods and service combination the firm offers to the target market, including variety of product mix, features, branding, designs, packaging, sizes, services, maintenance contracts, warranties and return policies.
    • A product (service) is anything that can be offered to a market for attention, acquisition, use or consumption that might satisfy a want or need.
  • Place (Distribution)
  • Price:
    • I’m finding that “People” or potential customers in my 9P’s, actual consumers are no longer buying “Products” and services based solely on “Price” and product quality.
    • An IBM study found that Nearly six in 10 consumers ("People") surveyed are willing to change their buying habits to reduce environmental impact. They found that over 70% would pay a premium of 35%, on average, for brands and products that are sustainable and environmentally responsible.
  • Planning, including Ma
  • Promotion:
    • There are eight (8) major, strategic components or communication elements which are personal and non-personal communication activities.
    • The activities that communicate the merits of the overall product include:
      • Personal Selling/ Sales Force: Sales persons
        • Listen more than you talk. People who listen more, learn more, plus helps you position your service/product/solution or offering.
      • Advertising: There's an expression "It is only creative if the product or service sells." I wanted to add "It is only good media spending if it sells."
      • Sales Promotion

Dr. Oz, It's Tricky, Taken Off The Air?

The Dr. Oz Show has been on TV since 2009.

Dr. Oz has tremendous power and name recognition.

Why was his show pulled? Here's a logistical media and political nightmare.

It was pulled in New York and Philadelphia, but with TV station airwaves not respecting geographical boundaries, other TV stations which air or bleed into  Pennsylvania will be affected too.

Why? He has made his candidacy for the Senate official.

Why is that a problem for TV and the media? The FCC has an equal time provision for broadcast TV stations. If a declared candidate for elected office gets free time the same opportunity has to be given to the other candidates.

It's happened before on famous actors such as Fred Grandy of Love Boat fame in Iowa. Arnold Schwarzenegger's films as he ran for governor of California.

I am a senior Forensic Marketing Expert, Advertising expert, Advertising/Marketing consultant with Londre Marketing Consultants, LLC.

I feel from my study and research that there needs to be more focus on the "Customer," or "People." "People" or market segments, which utilize demographics, geographics (potential Pennsylvania voters), psychographics, behavioral characteristics and technographics, are vital, learning components of the 9P's.

      • About potential voters here. In my 9P's, I stress that firms need to look and analyze potential, new, existing and repeat customers and users.
    • Product and Services
    • Place (Distribution)
    • Price
    • Planning
    • Promotion:
      • There are eight (8) major, strategic components or communication elements which are personal and non-personal communication activities.
      • The activities that communicate the merits of the overall product include:
        • Personal Selling/ Sales Force: Sales persons
          • Listen more than you talk. People who listen more, learn more, plus helps you position your service/product/solution or offering.
        • Advertising: There's an expression "It is only creative if the product or service sells." I wanted to add "It is only good media spending if it sells."

The Complexities Of Understanding "people," Under The Nine P's Of Marekting

Looking at potential and actual customers or what I named "people," in the complex understanding of the 9P's. Sometimes it is easy to sum up what to do, but that may be harder to execute than it seems. Look at the data, as a first step, you are collecting about your customers or consumers.

Look at first visit or first purchase. Repeat purchasers. Second is deciding what to do with it. The third is communication and promotion.

Defining a target market or persona requires market segmentation; the process of segmenting the entire market as a whole and separating it into manageable units based on:
    • Demographics. Demographic market segmentation is looking at the potential or actual buyer’s age, family size, race, occupation, generation, religion, gender, family lifecycle, ethnicity, nationality, income, education, social class. Demographics may be segmented into several markets to help an organization target its consumers more effectively
    • Geographic segmentation could be nation, country, region, city, density, climate.
    • Psychographics is the science of dividing into groups on psychological /personality traits, lifestyle, or values. People in the same demographic groups may be very different in their psychological profiles.
    • Behavioral segmentation, marketers divide buyers into groups on the basis of knowledge of, attitude, use of or response to a product or service. User status could include occasions, nonusers, ex-users, readiness to buy and loyalty status. Could be enthusiast, traditionalist, or overwhelmed just to name three.
    • Technographics or technographical characteristics. Understanding your potential consumer. Remember, in the back of your mind, that the reason technology is phenomenal is because it displaces years, or centuries, of previous technology. Consumers may or may not have the skills. Think employees here too. The reason technology skills are transitory is because they will almost certainly be displaced, too.
Let's look at data and targeting, in another way. Or a strategic way of looking for potential customers or "people," under the 9P's of Marketing

There are many ways to help you determine a target market.
    • Who bought or has the potential to buy, but break that down into significant segments?
    • Which products and services do they buy?
    • Pricing/Price?
    • When (date/time)?
    • Where (channel, store location or device)?
    • Payment method?
Now there are many ways to buy data. It can be from my five key elements in my nine P's, under "People," with demographic, geographics, you could combine then with geo-demographic, psychographics or lifestyle, behavioral and technographics.

    Being more specific...
    • Transactions: Products & Services Purchased, including conversion data)
    • Demographic, look for and at ages, family sizes, family life cycle, genders, incomes, occupation, education, religion, race, culture, generation, nationalities, and social class)
    • Promotional and Response history (opens and clicks, to marketing campaigns)
    • Channel Usage / Online Behavior
    • Lifestyle/Survey Responses
    • Payment/Delinquencies history
    • Call / Communication Logs
    • Movement Data
    • Planning: Research and Surveys
    • Browsing online history or online Behavior
An example of online purchasing: The Covid-19 pandemic essentially forced the hand of older consumers (Baby Boomers), who were slow to adapt as normal shopping routines were completely upended. They started buying online, within a couple weeks.

    Try to make it actionable.
