AT&T Will Delay Its Rollout Of 5G Network Near Airports. They Need To Test And Plan More.

It’s a safety issue and will be within two miles of airports.

AT&T does go live today for its 5G network.

An AT&T spokesperson said
"…we have voluntarily agreed to temporarily defer turning on a limited number of towers around certain airport runways as we continue to work with the aviation industry and the FAA to provide further information about our 5G deployment, since they have not utilized the two years they’ve had to responsibly plan for this deployment."

Wow, a backlash from AT&T to the airline CEOs on Marketing “Planning” and “Partners” under the 9P’s.

I am a senior Forensic Marketing Expert, Advertising expert, Advertising/Marketing consultant with Londre Marketing Consultants, LLC.

I created the 9P's of Marketing.

I own a copyright for the Nine P’s/9 P's of Marketing ©2007 concepts and Marketing practices, which augment the 1960's Marketing Mix (Product, Price, Promotion and Place) or the 4P’s by the American Marketing Association (AMA), Neil Borden and Jerome McCarthy in the study and practice of Marketing.

The Nine P's/9P's of Marketing help identify marketing problems in a number of strategic areas and help develop profitable marketing’s objectives, strategies, tactics and solutions. The 9P's are insightful. They were created for the digital age.

In Marketing, the "customer," or potential consumers should be the center of the universe or "king," but they are missing in the 4P's. I feel from my study and research that there needs to be more focus on the "Customer," or "People." "People" or market segments, which utilize demographics, geographics, psychographics, behavioral characteristics and technographics, are vital, learning components of the 9P's.

I consult and teach using these Marketing concepts and practices of the Nine P's/9P's of Marketing.

In the study and practice of Marketing, brand, advertising and marketing managers develop plans, strategies and tactics. The Nine P’s include these important concepts, practices and components:

  • People (Segmentation and Targeting)
    • In my 9P's, I stress that firms need to look and analyze potential, new, existing and repeat customers and users.
    • It's a special way at looking at diversity, if you review your gender, racial and other factors to your employees, customers, management, talent, board of directors, suppliers, partners, agencies, production and more.
    • To understand your "People" or market segments, you will need to or may need to utilize many characteristics, including demographics (such as age, family size, family life cycle, gender, income, occupation, education, religion, race, culture, generation, nationality, and social class), geographics, psychographics (buyers are on basis of psychological/personality traits, lifecycle, values), behavioral characteristics (needs and benefits, decision roles, user and usage-related variables, occasions, user status, usage rate buyer-readiness stage, loyalty status, attitude and multiple bases) and technographics (potential buyers may or may not have the software and computer skills. Think employees here too, which may be a vital component or components of the 9P's of Marketing.
    • Look at your actual customers. Then once a target market is chosen, the organization can develop its marketing strategies to target a market segment or market segments
    • It’s easy to market toward demographics, but brands can’t connect with people unless they learn how they think. By developing mindset-based marketing strategies, brand decision-making can better resonate with these segments, targets and audiences to increase consumer loyalty.
    • Brand managers need to look at at their customers and/or potential users. Do you understand your potential customer's purchase and usage touchpoints, their habits and how they engage with your brand? Competing for their attention?
    • Place "consumers," "People" or "potential buyers" in the middle of a circle. Find information or data on them. Add the other components in the other nine P's.
    • Post Covid 19 pandemic, I'm seeing "People" want an exceptional buying experience, which includes ethics and the company’s values. People are caring about convenience, comfort, ethics, and sustainability.  Look at home delivery of meals and everything on Amazon and Walmart or Target.
    • “People” or consumers prefer to buy “Products” from brands that share their values and “purpose-driven” movements.
    • Targeting mindsets allows brands to connect with consumers on an emotional level, which positively affects brands’ bottom lines.
    • Consumer and shopping data, plus first-party data can also help brands identify what people find valuable and important. You need to know where they live, how they work and play?
    • "People" or targeting has almost always been left out of the traditional "Marketing Mix," almost every diagram includes the four P's with Product, Promotion, Place and Price.
    • In Marketing, from my education, training, research and analysis plus testimony, there needs to be greater focus on the buyer, "customer," or "People," in both planning ad implementation.
  • Product and Services
    • Under the 9P's, it's the goods and service combination the firm offers to the target market, including variety of product mix, features, branding, designs, packaging, sizes, services, maintenance contracts, warranties and return policies.
    • A product (service) is anything that can be offered to a market for attention, acquisition, use or consumption that might satisfy a want or need.
  • Place (Distribution)
  • Price:
    • I’m finding that “People” or potential customers in my 9P’s, actual consumers are no longer buying “Products” and services based solely on “Price” and product quality.
    • An IBM study found that Nearly six in 10 consumers ("People") surveyed are willing to change their buying habits to reduce environmental impact. They found that over 70% would pay a premium of 35%, on average, for brands and products that are sustainable and environmentally responsible.
  • Planning:
    • Market planning and research is the process of organizing and defining the marketing aims of a company and gathering strategies and tactics to achieve them.
  • Promotion:
    • There are eight (8) major, strategic components or communication elements which are personal and non-personal communication activities.
    • The activities that communicate the merits of the overall product include:
      • Personal Selling/ Sales Force: Sales persons
        • Listen more than you talk. People who listen more, learn more, plus helps you position your service/product/solution or offering.
      • Advertising: There's an expression "It is only creative if the product or service sells." I wanted to add "It is only good media spending if it sells."
      • Sales Promotion
      • Collateral Materials
      • Direct Marketing (also referred to as Action or Direct Response Advertising)
      • Interactive/Internet/Web, Digital Media, Social Media:
      • Events and Experiences
      • Public Relations/PR
  • Partners
  • Presentation:
  • Passion

Why Use Actors Tom Selleck and The Late Fred Thompson, Reverse Mortgages May Be Confusing?

Reverse mortgages are not for everyone and not for every older homeowner.  In my specific family they do cause stress on my father in law.

Why use spokespersons such Tom Selleck and Fred Thompson?

They can cut thru the clutter of TV advertising. They can attract attention and improve a company or product's image. They can sell and increase sales. They can increase credibity.

So can the actors of Tom and Fred build credibility and improve the image.

It can be hard for a category such as reverse mortgages. For some background, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, a federal watchdog agency, found that American Advisors Group (AAG) violated consumer's trust.

AAG promoted false protections and inflated the values that homeowners could expert from a reverse mortgage.  As in the copy point or benefit of "reap more proceeds from the reverse mortgage that were actually available."

AAG did settle the violation for $1.3 Million.

For any good or service, here are some of my major questions any brand manager or marketing manager should ask about using a celebrity?

  • Pretty sure, Tom and Fred did not use the product?
  • Is the celebrity appropriate for your product or service?
  • Does celebrity subtract from product or service? I love this one.
  • Does the celebrity add value? Or generate a good impression?
  • It used to be about "gut feelings." Now brand managers are asking “Show me the evidence that this is the right star or celebrity.” It’s both an art and science.”
  • Does the celebrity add to the product’s image?
  • How much is their fee?
  • How is the contract structured?
  • Do you pay the celebrity their fee, which will decrease media exposure/expenses?
  • What about the history and future of the celebrity exposure? What about “after hour” behavior, any criminal record, FTC issues? Health?

Again, in most cases: Be sure celebrity uses and continues to use the product?

One Of The 9P's Of Marketing: Pricing And Inflation?

We've got inflation and prices are rising.

Prices for goods and services "Product" under the nine P,  have gone up 7% in the past year.

Why? Rising housing, energy, medical, food costs are up.

Add the supply chain hassels during the pandemic.

What is this 9P component Price or Pricing?

It's all of the aspects regarding pricing:The amount of money a consumer is willing to pay to obtain the product or service. Pricing includes wholesale/retail/promotional prices, discounts, trade-in allowances, quantity discounts, credit terms, sales and payment periods and credit terms.  “Price” decision making also involves adjusting prices concerning the competitive environment, economic situations and involve buyer perceptions.

Prices may be a key positioning factor and must be decided in relation to the target market, the product and service assortment mix, the competition and other factors.

All retailers would like high turns x earns (high volumes and high gross margins), but the two don’t usually go together.

Most retailers fall into the high-markup, lower volume group (fine specialty stores) or the low-markup, higher-volume group (mass merchandisers and discount stores).

Selling Oreos, AirBnB, Netflix? Make It a Blockbuster. No, Easy Use Blockbuster?

What About Blockbuster?

Well, there’s only one store left and it’s in Deschutes County, Oregon. This Blockbuster video rental store near Bend, Oregon, became the last on Earth in 2019.

It’s been sold and promoted as a site for a slumber party by AirBnB.

Netflix used it and it’s part of a Netflix documentary called surprisingly “The Last Blockbuster.”

Now Oreos has dressed the store up to relaunch Cakesters, their soft-baked cookie from 2007. Limited release. With sales promotional event at the nation’s or the world’s last remaining Blockbuster store.

Is It Demarketing? It's Tonight. The Nonevent For The HFPA's Golden Globes. No Audience. No Media.

No red carpet. No TV. No stars. No press. No audience.

Tonight at 6PM: Does anyone care?

Golden Globes are a marketing case being written.

Could it include demarketing? Technically not, since demarketing is the use of advertising and promotion to decrease demand for a product or service that is in short supply.

NBC did canceled the annual program this year after the HFPA came under fire for lack of diversity among its board, membership, unethical business practices and lower ratings.

My view of demarketing is the publicity and PR which is falling on deaf ears. Irritating the agencies and important members of the entertainment community

TV Viewership has been sinking. It was only last May that TV viewership sank to a 13 year low, with some of the worst press imaginable for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's Golden Globes.

Golden Globes viewership was only 6.9 million viewers, a 63% drop from the 18.4 million who tuned in 2020.  The telecast had the lowest rating ever in the key demographic of 18-49 year olds.

As a Marketing guy, teacher and Marketing expert plus consultant,  sometimes you see a disaster in the making. It's starting with their announcements and PR regarding next Sunday's event (January 9th at6PM)?, only days in advance.

  1. Take will be no media.
  2. No audience.
  3. No celebrities presenting or accepting.
  4. Could it include demarketing? Technically not, since demarketing is the use of advertising and promotion to decrease demand for a product or service that is in short supply. 5. An unevent? A nonevent?

With no audience or media invited. Would they have come?

And no celebs have agreed to announce. Nightmare?

I'm looking at the blocks or boxes are falling, with poor planning, awful publicity and a bad trend.

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association's board and their Golden Globes are digging themselves into a hole.

M&M’s, Snickers, and/or Skittles Have Appeared In The Super Bowl Since 2010. Not In 2022? What Could They Spend The $6.5 Million Per Spot On?

Plenty of options.

Mars Wrigley, an NFL sponsor, is sitting out. On the sidelines.

Every year I go to a few classroom and discuss the TV spots in that years Super Bowl. This years Super Bowl is on February 13th.

They are also the latest longtime Super Bowl advertiser sitting out this year. They are Mars Wrigley with its M&M's, Snickers and Skittles.

What and where could they spend the money?

Selling, customer service, advertising and promotional activities are ways of communicating the merits of the overall product and service offered.

It's not just about advertising.

To me it's about Promotion. Promotion refers to any type of marketing-related communication used to inform or persuade target markets/media audiences of the relative merits of a product, service, brand or issue.

The aim of promotion is to increase awareness, create interest, generate sales or create brand loyalty. A promotional activity that supports or provides active encouragement for the furtherance of a cause, venture, or aim.

Under one of my 9P's is Promotion with eight strategic elements or components, which are:

How Did A Box of Chocolates Get Associated With Valentine’s Day?

This year Valentine's Day is a Sunday,  February 14th.

Chocolate has a history as a love food and as an aphrodisiac. It’s about passion. The upper class of the Mayans and Aztecs loved a drink of roasted cacao beans with vanilla, honey and chilies.

But what about the red box?  In 1861, a “Product” and “Marketing” genius, Richard Cadbury of the British chocolate manufacturing company, Cadbury, added rosebuds and cupids to heart-shaped boxes of chocolates. It was suggested that the boxes, after the chocolates had been consumed, customers could use these beautiful boxes to save love letters.

Regarding Hollywood and movies, it was in 1933 with Jean Harlow’s performance in “Dinner at Eight,” She was dressed in satin and sequins, and lounges with a heart-shaped pillow, in bed, and suggestively nibbles the candies in a large box of chocolates.

Wanted to add it isn’t associated with Forrest Gump (played by Tom Hanks) ) in 1994 when he said “My mom always said life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get.” Love?

In Marketing. the "Customer," or potential customers are king, but are missing in the 4P's. There needs to be more focus on the "Customer," or "People." "People," market segments utilizing demographics, geographics, psychographics, behavioral characteristics and technographics are a vital component of the 9P's.

I consult and teach using the concepts and practices of the Nine P's/9P's of Marketing.

In the study and practice of Marketing, Marketing and Brand Managers develop plans, strategies and tactics. The Nine P’s include these important components:

  • People (Segmentation and Targeting)
    • Look and analyze potential, new, existing and repeat customers and users.
    • Look at at your customer and/or potential user. Do you understand the potential customers purchase and usage touchpoints, their habits and how they engage with your brand? Competing for their attention?
    • "People" or targeting has almost always been left out of the traditional "Marketing Mix," almost every diagram includes the four P's with Product, Promotion, Place and Price.
    • Place "consumer" or "People" or "potential buyers" in the middle of a circle. Find information or data on them. Add the other components in the nine P's.
    • In Marketing, from my education, training, research and analysis plus testimony, there needs to be greater focus on the buyer, "customer," or "People," in both planning ad implementation.
    • To understand your "People" or market segments, it may utilize many characteristics, including demographics (such as age, family size, family life cycle, gender, income, occupation, education, religion, race, culture, generation, nationality, and social class), geographics, psychographics (buyers are on basis of psychological/personality traits, lifecycle, values), behavioral characteristics (needs and benefits, decision roles, user and usage-related variables, occasions, user status, usage rate buyer-readiness stage, loyalty status, attitude and multiple bases) and technographics (potential buyers may or may not have the software and computer skills. Think employees here too, which may be a vital component or components of the 9P's of Marketing.
    • Once a target market is chosen, the organization can develop its marketing strategies to target a market segment or marketing segments.
    • Simply it's about Segmentation and Targeting. Add Positioning and you have STP, as a major first step.
  • Product and Services
    • Valentine's Day gifts.
    • It's the goods and service combination the firm offers to the target market, including variety of product mix, features, branding, designs, packaging, sizes, services, maintenance contracts, warranties and return policies.
    • A product (service) is anything that can be offered to a market for attention, acquisition, use or consumption that might satisfy a want or need.
  • Place (Distribution)
  • Price
  • Planning
    • Here are some strategic comments and questions under Promotion:
      • What should you promote? Strategic copy points. Love? Chocolate candies? Boxes?
      • To whom should you target and promote? Under "People/"Targeting, target market, audience with media falls here.
      • Evaluate the eight different elements under Promotion and your brand's practices. That affects media planning.
      • Ask is there a better way? A different promotional mix. There has to be a better way.
      • What are your costs in dollars and manpower or person power? Ask "Is there a different way or ways to budget?"
      • Look at different strategic partners? Their costs?
      • You can differentiate with price. Discounting? Special sales? What economic and discount levels should you offer? Look at revenue versus costs.
      • What form or combination of promotion should you offer? Features?
      • How frequent? Add media planning here.
  • Partners
  • Presentation
  • Passion

UP, Down: Examples of While Network Programming Is Down,. NFL Shows Increases.

A big weekend of football.

Last year we saw the ratings for NFL football dip. Remember we were and are still in a pandemic.

More importantly, negotiated its contract  and the NFL is on CBS, FOX, NBC, ESPN and ABC. Plus the platform of Amazon Prime V
ideo.

Plenty of options.

Now for the ups and downs.

The NFL is the up. This season, of the top 50 watched TV programs, they feature NFL match ups.

But I just read that regarding all TV broadcast network programming, which includes sports, the average prime-time series was down 5% against a year ago.

But posting increases over last year, the two top overall prime-time series are NFL related. They are:

  • NBC’s “Sunday Night Football” and
  • Fox/NFL Network’s “Thursday Night Football”

It’s Not All About SpiderMan. Theatres In 2021, Surviving?

But Spider Man is a big part of story.

The story isn't all Covid and safety but it's a huge part.

A huge bright spot was SpiderMan.

It was a year of turbulence. We have streaming.

We had movies which couldn’t find a target or a box office, such at West Side Story, Nightmare Alley, The King’s Man.  We have movies which are being released simultaneously on streaming platform and at box office. That strategy is still up in the air, if it works.

People were watching movies at home. Fewer going to theatres. I see about 50 movies a year in theatres and can’t remember one theatre that had more than 20 or 30 moviegoers in it, last year.

There were a dozen times of less than five sharing a theater. Twice my wife and I were the only ones watching.

It seems only Marvel movies and the big franchise films which are making and earning their box office numbers.

In two weeks “No Way Home” has already earned $1 billion globally, in theaters, and is packing them in during the holidays.

vital, learning components of the 9P's.

In the study and practice of Marketing, brand, advertising and marketing managers develop plans, strategies and tactics. The Nine P’s include these important concepts, practices and components:

  • People (Segmentation and Targeting)
    • Movie goers and movie watchers.
    • Movies are not the same watching at home or in a theatre.
    • Theatres and at home, or on a plane, or on your phone.
  • Price:
    • I’m finding that “People” or potential customers in my 9P’s, actual consumers are no longer buying “Products” and services based solely on “Price” and product quality.
  • Planning and research.
  • Promotion:
    • There are eight (8) major, strategic components or communication elements which are personal and non-personal communication activities.
    • The activities that communicate the merits of the overall product include:
      • Personal Selling/ Sales Force: Sales persons
