Airplane Flights Or Product: It's Not About Getting From There To Here.

Look at presentation and purpose affecting messaging and buying behaviors.

The acts of strategically presenting any of the different 9Ps© and/or components to your customers, suppliers, wholesalers, retailers, sales force, marketing intermediaries, clients, employees, partners, and/or others.

Private versus Commercial With Presentation

Product: It's commercial aviation versus private jets.

You may be surprised chartered and private aviation is up 25% while compared to commercial which is down 23%, based on pre-pandemic figures.

So let's pick Presentation and Purpose under the 9P's of Marketing.

According to Transport & Environment, private jets pollute more than commercial jets. About five to fourteen times more.

While private and chartered is a small fraction, it is growing.

I am a senior Forensic Marketing Expert, Advertising expert, Advertising/Marketing consultant with Londre Marketing Consultants, LLC.

I created the 9P's of Marketing.

I own a copyright for the Nine P’s/9 P's of Marketing ©2007 concepts and Marketing practices, which augment the 1960's Marketing Mix (Product, Price, Promotion and Place) or the 4P’s by the American Marketing Association (AMA), Neil Borden and Jerome McCarthy in the study and practice of Marketing.

The Nine P's/9P's of Marketing help identify marketing problems in a number of strategic areas and help develop profitable marketing’s objectives, strategies, tactics and solutions. The 9P's are insightful. They were created for the digital age.

In Marketing, the "customer," or potential consumers should be the center of the universe or "king," but they are missing in the 4P's. I feel from my study and research that there needs to be more focus on the "Customer," or "People." "People" or market segments, which utilize demographics, geographics, psychographics, behavioral characteristics and technographics, are vital, learning components of the 9P's.

I consult and teach using these Marketing concepts and practices of the Nine P's/9P's of Marketing.

In the study and practice of Marketing, brand, advertising and marketing managers develop plans, strategies and tactics. The Nine P’s include these important concepts, practices and components:

  • People (Segmentation and Targeting)
    • In my 9P's, I stress that firms need to look and analyze potential, new, existing and repeat customers and users.
    • It's a special way at looking at diversity, if you review your gender, racial and other factors to your employees, customers, management, talent, board of directors, suppliers, partners, agencies, production and more.
    • To understand your "People" or market segments, you will need to or may need to utilize many characteristics, including demographics (such as age, family size, family life cycle, gender, income, occupation, education, religion, race, culture, generation, nationality, and social class), geographicspsychographics (buyers are on basis of psychological/personality traits, lifecycle, values), behavioral characteristics (needs and benefits, decision roles, user and usage-related variables, occasions, user status, usage rate buyer-readiness stage, loyalty status, attitude and multiple bases) and technographics (potential buyers may or may not have the software and computer skills. Think employees here too, which may be a vital component or components of the 9P's of Marketing.
    • Look at your actual customers. Then once a target market is chosen, the organization can develop its marketing strategies to target a market segment or market segments
    • It’s easy to market toward demographics, but brands can’t connect with people unless they learn how they think. By developing mindset-based marketing strategies, brand decision-making can better resonate with these segments, targets and audiences to increase consumer loyalty.
    • Brand managers need to look at at their customers and/or potential users. Do you understand your potential customer's purchase and usage touchpoints, their habits and how they engage with your brand? Competing for their attention?
    • Place "consumers," "People" or "potential buyers" in the middle of a circle. Find information or data on them. Add the other components in the other nine P's.
    • Post Covid 19 pandemic, I'm seeing "People" want an exceptional buying experience, which includes ethics and the company’s values. People are caring about convenience, comfort, ethics, and sustainability.  Look at home delivery of meals and everything on Amazon and Walmart or Target.
    • “People” or consumers prefer to buy “Products” from brands that share their values and “purpose-driven” movements.
    • Targeting mindsets allows brands to connect with consumers on an emotional level, which positively affects brands’ bottom lines.
    • Consumer and shopping data, plus first-party data can also help brands identify what people find valuable and important. You need to know where they live, how they work and play?
    • "People" or targeting has almost always been left out of the traditional "Marketing Mix," almost every diagram includes the four P's with Product, Promotion, Place and Price.
    • In Marketing, from my education, training, research and analysis plus testimony, there needs to be greater focus on the buyer, "customer," or "People," in both planning ad implementation.
  • Product and Services
    • Under the 9P's, it's the goods and service combination the firm offers to the target market, including variety of product mix, features, branding, designs, packaging, sizes, services, maintenance contracts, warranties and return policies.
    • A product (service) is anything that can be offered to a market for attention, acquisition, use or consumption that might satisfy a want or need.
  • Place (Distribution)
  • Price:
    • I’m finding that “People” or potential customers in my 9P’s, actual consumers are no longer buying “Products” and services based solely on “Price” and product quality.
    • An IBM study found that Nearly six in 10 consumers ("People") surveyed are willing to change their buying habits to reduce environmental impact. They found that over 70% would pay a premium of 35%, on average, for brands and products that are sustainable and environmentally responsible.
  • Planning
  • Promotion:
    • There are eight (8) major, strategic components or communication elements which are personal and non-personal communication activities.
    • The activities that communicate the merits of the overall product include:
      • Personal Selling/ Sales Force: Sales persons
        • Listen more than you talk. People who listen more, learn more, plus helps you position your service/product/solution or offering.
      • Advertising: There's an expression "It is only creative if the product or service sells." I wanted to add "It is only good media spending if it sells."
      • Sales Promotion
      • Collateral Materials
      • Direct Marketing (also referred to as Action or Direct Response Advertising)
      • Interactive/Internet/Web, Digital Media, Social Media:
      • Events and Experiences
      • Public Relations/PR
      • With inflation at increasing higher levels, we are seeing brick and mortar retailers needing physical traffic to survive. Gas prices at record levels are keeping customers from driving more. One stop shopping is more important than ever.
  • Partners
  • Presentation: It's the acts of strategically presenting any of the different 9Ps© and/or components to your customers, suppliers, wholesalers, retailers, sales force, marketing intermediaries, clients, employees, partners, and/or others.
  • Passion

Need A Couple Of Words To Describe Each Of The Nine P's Of Marketing?

I teach, consult and do expert witnessing in Marketing and advertising. I teach, consult and do expert witnessing that the words Marketing and Advertising are not interchangeable.

What is interesting to us at Londre Marketing Consultants is that educated people, consumers, business owners, attorneys, media and other professionals use “marketing” or the term “marketing” to mean advertising or promotion.

It is much more.

Going into 2023, several important strategic philosophies and practices will guide Marketing planning, branding concepts, Marketing variables/tools/promotion/efforts, and/or Marketing relationships/partnerships/alliances.

As an owner, operator, supervisor, marketing executive, manager or employee, can your customers, clients or users tell the difference between your product or service and your competition? A strategic and significant difference?

Every brand should have a story to tell.

But are you telling the right story? Is your brand and story reaching the right people, potential purchasers?

Companies and brands can gain a deeper understanding of their target market and target audiences – and how to reach them.

The Nine P’s/9P’s can be used successfully by product companies, service firms, “for profits” entities and nonprofits “selling” directly or indirectly to consumers (B2C), to marketing intermediaries (such as industrial, consumer, retail, wholesale and professional channels of distribution), and to other businesses (B2B).

Planning: Marketing research

People Target Market and Audiences

Product: Goods and Services

Place: Distribution

Price" Pricing or Cost

Promotion: Making Sales and  Sales Incentives

Partners: Alliances

Presentation: Branding

Passion: Intense desires or emotional impressions

It’s Thursday Night Football. With Amazon Prime Video. With "People," Fans and The 9P's Of Marketing

I'm talking NFL fans on Prime Video. It’s Thursday Night Football. With Amazon Prime Video. Amazon is offering more data and now Nielsen.

It’s easy to market toward demographics, but brands can’t connect with people unless they learn how they think. By developing mindset-based marketing strategies, brand decision-making can better resonate with these segments, targets and audiences to increase consumer loyalty.

At approximately $500K per tv spot. Without creative and production.

Truck advertising and promotion.
With Amazon and Nielsen, advertisers have access to “people” and metrics to help understand insights in brand awareness, engagement and sales.  They will also have the potential purchase data, too.

Amazon has its data and metrics and has a deal with Nielsen for national TV data of the NFL's "Thursday Night Football" on Prime Video.

This is a first for a streaming service, national TV ratings of NFL.

Not just for the game but for pre and post-game data on on Prime Video and Twitch, as well as the over-the-air stations in the teams’ local markets. One more thing add out-of-home viewing.

Can You Hear Me Now? Good News. No Rx Now Needed And An Example Of "Place," Under The 9P's Of Marketing

Here is some good new. Or hearing some good news, today and this week.

The Food and Drug Administration has decided to allow hearing aids to be sold over the counter without a prescription to adults.

Stores couldn't offer and many consumers ("people," under my 9P's) have been frustrated in shopping for, the exams and the devices.

What is "place?"

Place or Distribution is the company’s activities that make the product available, using distribution and trade channels, roles, coverage, assortments, locations, inventory and transportation characteristics and alternatives.

Marketing managers and Brand managers want to offer the right Product at the right Price, at the right Place, with the right Partners and Presentation, at the right time.

Under "place," consider, develop and review store and non-store, e-commerce and “brick and mortar” factors, considerations, objectives, strategies and tactics, including “Partners.”

An E-commerce Giant, NFL, Thursday Night, Streaming, Smaller Audience. You’ve Got A Lot Of Parts, In This Blogpost:

One of the bigger NFL changes this season is Fox isn't airing Thursday Night Football. Neither is ESPN or ABC.

A no-go for CBS.

In September, Amazon Prime Video will start streaming Thursday Night Football.

It’s still the NFL, but it’s Broadcast versus Streaming. Fox versus the new Amazon prime video.

Amazon is expecting 12.5 million viewers, fewer viewers than last season on Fox.

Media costs: $500K (Amazon) versus $635K (Fox) for one :30 in a game.

Amazon ad and sales reps are working closely with its advertisers and sponsors to integrate their NFL ad buys into its ads platform.

One big game will be Thanksgiving night.

One more regarding Amazon, with all of its Prime members and buyers, has first-party data on consumers or what I call "people," in the 9P's.

  • Partners
  • Presentation:
  • Passion

For "Better Call Saul," No Fees Were Paid By Cinnabon, But Overall Product Placement Spending Is Way Up. Insights into Cinnabon and Saul or Gene?

Well the gig is up tomorrow. For you "Saul" fans and Cinnabon, Saul Goodman or Gene Takovic is spending his time after "Breaking Bad" as a Cinnabon manager in Omaha. The link? It goes back to the conversation between Saul and Walter White before they parted ways for good.

Both guys were holed up in a bunker owned by Ed (vacuum repair), the man who specializes in making people disappear.  As in generating new identities.

Saul says to Walt, "If I'm lucky, a month from now, best case scenario, I'm managing a Cinnabon in Omaha.

No more episodes of Gene Takovic as Jimmy McGill's post-Saul Goodman persona.

Gene works as the manager of Cinnabon, but no exchange of cash was paid to AMC or the producers.

What is Product Placement? I teach, consult and do expert witnessing and define Product Placement as ads or advertisements. They are promotional ads or sales promotion placed by marketers or their agencies using real commercial products and services in media, where the presence of a particular brand is usually the result of an economic exchange. When featuring a product is not part of an economic exchange, it is called a product plug.

Product Placement appears in plays, film, TV shows and series, music videos, video games and books. Product placement occurs with the inclusion of a product or a brand's logo in the show or shot, or a favorable mention or appearance of a product. This is done without disclosure, except for the legal mandatories at the end of a show, and under the premise that it is a natural part of the work.

Most major movie releases today contain product placements. The most common form is in movie and TV placements and more recently computer and video games.

Brands are willing to invest in the creative integration of their logos and products in storylines. They can create positive brand associations.

I have witnessed, as the example of Cinnabon, that TV and films remain the largest media category; digital media, video streaming services and game placements are hot.

What Is An Influencer And Why Do Brands, Marketers And Advertisers Use Them?

Influencers may add awareness, interest and sometimes serious credibility to your product or brand.

They fall under "Promotion," under the  Nine P's of Marketing.

An influencer is a a person with the ability to influence potential buyers (prospects or "people," under my 9P's) of a product or service by promoting or recommending the items on social media. They can also attend events, sales shows and Tv shows.

Influencers can add fuel to your marketing planning
In social media and in other media, influencers are people who have built a reputation for their knowledge and expertise on a specific topic.  Or they are just famous.

They can create posts about that topic, product, product category, events, holidays and reasons to buy..,..on their social media channels and generate awareness among potentially engaged people who pay close attention to their views.

Marketers use Influencers to:

  • Reach new "People," prospects, communities, audiences.
  • Generate product or brand engagement
  • Change brand perception.
  • Promote brand character, values and mission.
  • Support charitable events and mission.
  • Strengthen a brand's social community
  • Drive revenue if effective
  • Aid in AIDA (Awareness-Interest-Desire-Action)

In Marketing, the "customer," or potential consumers should be the center of the universe or "king," but they are missing in the 4P's. I feel from my study and research that there needs to be more focus on the "Customer," or "People." "People" or market segments, which utilize demographics, geographics, psychographics, behavioral characteristics and technographics, are vital, learning components of the 9P's.

I consult and teach using these Marketing concepts and practices of the Nine P's/9P's of Marketing.
