For Netflix's New Movie "Red Notice?" Kind Of An Odd And Weird Selling Messages?

I teach that advertising is about selling benefits, about "products" or services under 9P's of Marketing.

I teach that "advertising is structured and composed of nonpersonal communication of information, usually paid for and usually persuasive in nature, about products (goods, services) and ideas by identified sponsors through various media."

So I noticed the odd selling messages coming from Ryan Reynolds and Maximum Effort. They are trying to create awareness for the movie "Red Notice."

But Ryan adds that the movie:

  • Besides starring Ryan also stars Dwayne "The Rock."
  • He introduces "The Misdirect," a cocktail made with Ryan's Aviation Gin brand.
  • Ryan jokes that The Rock, has his own Teremana tequila brand, and adds that tequila causes baldness. Really?
  • The ad end with "Who needs all those muscles, when you can have this?"
Movie, Gin, Tequila, Baldness, Muscles, Netflix. Does that add up?

An Exercise For Marketing Planning 2022: Look at Ex-Users and Repeat Users, Under People In The 9P's Of Marketing

An exercise for 2022. Look at why the ex-users left you and buying your products and services and look at reviewing why your repeat customers keep coming back.

Want to differentiate your product. Look at targeting. I'm featuring usage under "People" and behaviors.

I teach that defining a target market or persona requires market segmentation; the process of segmenting the entire market as a whole and separating it into manageable units.

One of the ways to separate is Behavioral segmentation.

Marketers and product managers divide buyers into groups on the basis of knowledge of, attitude, use of or response to a product or service. User status could include occasions, nonusers, ex-users, readiness to buy and loyalty status.

Could be enthusiast, traditionalist, or overwhelmed just to name three.

Others ways to segment include:
  • Demographics. Demographic market segmentation is looking at the potential or actual buyer’s age, family size, race, occupation, generation, religion, gender, family lifecycle, ethnicity, nationality, income, education, social class. Demographics may be segmented into several markets to help an organization target its consumers more effectively
    9P's of Marketing
  • Geographic segmentation could be nation, country, region, city, density, climate.
  • Psychographics is the science of dividing into groups on psychological /personality traits, lifestyle, or values. People in the same demographic groups may be very different in their psychological profiles.
  • Technographics or technographical characteristics. Understanding your potential consumer. Remember, in the back of your mind, that the reason technology is phenomenal is because it displaces years, or centuries, of previous technology. Consumers may or may not have the skills. Think employees here too. The reason technology skills are transitory is because they will almost certainly be displaced, too. marketers should prompt usage by using techniques such as associating items with occasions to "help consumers unlock the value in their products and services.

Does Holiday Packaging Or Packaging Fall Under The 9P's?

It's Monday and time for coffee with a friend. Need a gift? A cup of coffee?

On my question of "Is packaging under the nine P's?  Yes and no.

Packaging does fall under "Product," but is packaging is not one of the 4P's, Marketing Mix of 9P's of Marketing.

So here's an example. It's personalized so it can fall under "Product" and "People."

The example is Starbucks customizable holiday cups. There are four hoilday cups in green and red with a feel or display of gifting or gift tags.

The English and Spanish creative of digital media, print and TV comes from Starbusks inhouse studio.

Want to Look At Actual Retail Sales And Targeting? What Does DSP Mean?

Why am I putting targeting and DSP together?

I teach and consult that defining a target market or persona requires market segmentation; the process of segmenting the entire market as a whole and separating it into manageable units based on:

  • Demographics. Demographic market segmentation is looking at the potential or actual buyer’s age, family size, race, occupation, generation, religion, gender, family lifecycle, ethnicity, nationality, income, education, social class. Demographics may be segmented into several markets to help an organization target its consumers more effectively
  • Geographic segmentation could be nation, country, region, city, density, climate.
  • Psychographics is the science of dividing into groups on psychological /personality traits, lifestyle, or values. People in the same demographic groups may be very different in their psychological profiles.
  • Behavioral segmentation, marketers divide buyers into groups on the basis of knowledge of, attitude, use of or response to a product or service. User status could include occasions, nonusers, ex-users, readiness to buy and loyalty status. Could be enthusiast, traditionalist, or overwhelmed just to name three.

So here's a real world example. Let’s look at data and targeting, in another way.  Or a strategic way of looking for potential customers or "people," under the 9P's of Marketing

There are many ways to help you determine a target market.

  • Who bought or has the potential to buy, but break that down into significant segments?
  • Which products and services do they buy?
  • Pricing/Price?
  • When (date/time)?
  • Where (channel, store location or device)?
  • Payment method?

I read that Kroger is launching an advertising marketplace of programmatic buying using their first-party data.

They call it their Kroger Private Marketplace.

Kroger serves 60M households,  annually nationwide. Kroger is promotiong that advertisers and brands can reach the most relevant consumers across the web, using their own DSP of choice. What is a DSP? Digital Signal Processors use real-world signals like voice, audio, video, temperature, pressure, or location (geographics) that have been digitized and then mathematically manipulate them..Technographics?

I consult and teach using these Marketing concepts and practices of the Nine P's/9P's of Marketing.

In the study and practice of Marketing, brand, advertising and marketing managers develop plans, strategies and tactics. The Nine P’s include these important concepts, practices and components:

  • People (Segmentation and Targeting)

Creating Customer Value Through Partners? An Example?

Most times Marketers can’t create customer value and build customer relationships only by themselves.

Let’s take Dick’s Sporting Goods.

Let’s take Nike.

Dick's and Nike are coming together. Partnering together with Dick's Scorecard and Nike Member loyalty program. You’ll see within the Dick's app, customers or "People,” another P.

They can connect their accounts for loyalty perks.

Smart Marketers work closely with partners and alliances outside the firm, and with other company departments (inside partners).

I find that partnerships and teams that feel a connection to the work and the purpose are going to speak far more passionately together and to your or their “people,” and with far more influence.

I define “Partners” or alliances as a joint partnership; the joint relationships, partnerships and strategic alliances: The relationship existing between two parties; a relationship resembling a legal partnership and usually involving close cooperation between parties having specific and joint rights and responsibilities as a common enterprise. Usually plural or “Partners,” not Partner.

We have Product and Place coming together.

Last June Nike named Dick's among three other "large strategic partners" it will work closely with.

Importance Of Culture, With "Presentation" And The 9P's Of Marketing

I'm communicating about branding, culture and the 9P's

What is Presentation?  “Presentation” is the act of strategically presenting any of the different 9P’s© and/or components to your customers, suppliers, wholesalers, retailers, sales force, marketing intermediaries, clients, employees, partners, and/or others.

I teach one of the most important is your own employees, first.

Presentation aspects may be signs, symbols or images that represent something; a descriptive or persuasive account (as a sales person of the product or service). Something set forth for the attention of mind of your targets and audiences.

A company's culture is one of those signs or symbols.

While traditional marketing is based on target audience impressions/ views/ clicks/ exposure, experimental marketing involves engaging with consumers. Enabling consumers and “allowing” them to “feel” the brand. The importance of culture for a company or brand? Immense.

Understanding your company's culture is more than a marketing and branding exercise.

It's an objective, strategy and an initiative that reveals the core of your company.

Look at your values, practices, and expectations. Look at training for your employees. Your culture provides direction and decision making for your marketing decisions, including branding. It takes a team.

I created the 9P's of Marketing.

I own a copyright for the Nine P’s/9 P's of Marketing ©2007 concepts and Marketing practices, which augment the 1960's Marketing Mix (Product, Price, Promotion and Place) or the 4P’s by the American Marketing Association (AMA), Neil Borden and Jerome McCarthy in the study and practice of Marketing.

The Nine P's/9P's of Marketing help identify marketing problems in a number of strategic areas and help develop profitable marketing’s objectives, strategies, tactics and solutions. The 9P's are insightful. They were created for the digital age.

In Marketing, the "customer," or potential consumers should be the center of the universe or "king," but they are missing in the 4P's. I feel from my study and research that there needs to be more focus on the "Customer," or "People." "People" or market segments, which utilize demographics, geographics, psychographics, behavioral characteristics and technographics, are vital, learning components of the 9P's.

    • In my 9P's, I stress that firms need to look and analyze potential, new, existing and repeat customers and users.
  • Product and Services
  • Place (Distribution)
  • Price:
  • Planning
  • Promotion:
    • There are eight (8) major, strategic components or communication elements which are personal and non-personal communication activities.
    • The activities that communicate the merits of the overall product include:
      • Personal Selling/ Sales Force: Sales persons
        • Listen more than you talk. People who listen more, learn more, plus helps you position your service/product/solution or offering.
      • Advertising: There's an expression "It is only creative if the product or service sells." I wanted to add "It is only good media spending if it sells."
      • Sales Promotion
      • Collateral Materials
      • Direct Marketing (also referred to as Action or Direct Response Advertising)
      • Interactive/Internet/Web, Digital Media, Social Media:

What is a Brand Purpose? What is a Brand Promise?

But first you need to know what a brand is?

What is a brand? It helps identify a product or service. A brand is an intangible marketing or business concept that helps people identify a company, product, service or individual.

Brand identification. It’s not a slogan. It’s the product name.

What is a brand purpose? A brand purpose is essentially a brand or product’s reason for being beyond making a sale or money.

It’s the reason you get up in the morning. Purpose should guide decisions, Marketing objectives, strategies and tactics, inspire behaviors, shape goals. They help insirte and offer a clear sense of creating meaning and direction.

For example, at Crayola they say that their purpose is “to help parents and educators raise creatively-alive kids.” They continue to state that they want to help kids ask those “what if?” questions that keep them curious.

A brand promise is a value or experience a company's customers (“People” in my 9P’s) can expect to receive every single time they interact with that company or the “products.”. The more a company can deliver on that brand promise, or their promise, the stronger the brand value in the mind of customers and employees. Building brand loyalty.

A couple of examples:

  • Geico: Give us “15 minutes or less …we can save you 15% or more on your car insurance.”
  • BMW: “The Ultimate Driving Machine”

Anmericans Are Frustrated. I Was Thinking of Simp? What is Skimpflation?

Simp? Skimpflation?

A simp is someone who tries way too hard to impress the person they like, often going above and beyond to satisfy their every need.

Well, the definition of skimpflation is how many of our services and some products are being cut back or deteriorating?
  • Like ordering an Uber that never comes?
  • Ordering a printer from Best Buy and the order is cancelled?
  • Same with Amazon, couldn’t find a printing cartridge after ordering and given a shipment date.
  • What about menus at restaurants?
  • Not getting mail everday?
  • Longer lines at retail?
  • Lack of service in department stores?
  • Seen how many airlines, like Southwest and American, have canceled thousands of flights.
With the pandemic, the quality of many services (Under “Products” in my 9P’s) has deteriorated.

Add our dissatisfaction with politicians, Biden and the economy and Americans are frustrated.
